Launch of SW Lib Dem Europe referendum campaign
Liberal Democrats from across the South West have launched their Europe referendum campaign

Liberal Democrats from across the South West were in Exeter on Saturday to launch their party's regional campaign for Britain to stay in the European Union. Speakers included former MEPs Sir Graham Watson and Lord Robin Teverson, who have both represented the city of Plymouth in the European Parliament.

Commenting, local Liberal Democrat Stuart Bonar said, "It was great to help launch the party's South West campaign to keep Britain in Europe. It was an excellent turnout of Liberal Democrats who want the best for this country.

"In Europe, we can thrive. When we work with our neighbours in Europe, Britain is a stronger, more prosperous nation, creating opportunity for ourselves and for future generations.

"Just think about it. Together, we have created the world's largest free trade area, we have built a culture of peace in Europe after generations of war, and we have given ourselves, our children and our grandchildren the opportunity to live, study, work, travel and retire freely.

"Together, we can be stronger in the fight against problems that don't stop at borders. We can more effectively fight international crime, for example, and tackle climate change. By leaving Europe we would be turning our back on our neighbours. Being out - isolated, sidelined and alone - is not in the best interests of this country.

"By voting to stay in, we can thrive, and we can show the world that we are a proud, open and outward-looking nation."
