Paul Andrews announced as our parliamentary spokesperson for Sutton and Devonport
Dr Paul Andrews has been a South Devon based GP for the last twelve years. He moved nearer to the family home in Devon after eight years of service as a Medical Officer in the RAF. As a civilian he has worked in the Devonport Royal Naval dockyard and with each of the Plymouth based Royal Marine Commando units. He has also worked as a local GP and in NHS hospitals.
His style has always been to try to build cooperation by finding common ground and areas of agreement which is going to be one of the great challenges for our society in the coming years.
It was whilst serving in Iraq in 2006 that the seed of an idea was planted to go into politics one day, but it was only in the last three years, watching the pantomime that is Brexit, that he has felt compelled to get involved.
Before training as a doctor he had a successful career as an offshore engineering geophysicist. He travelled and worked widely in Europe, North America and Australia. Latterly he worked as a self-employed freelance contractor during university vacations to fund his medical studies. He also found time to do research gaining a research doctorate Earthquake Risk Assessment as well as being a professional Chartered Geologist.
He is married with a family and when not busy at work or with house / car / garden maintenance enjoys the hills and coast of the SW.
