Parties in Exeter to stand down from Polling Stations on the 6th May.

Following an initiative from Exeter Liberal Democrats, the Conservative, Labour and Green parties have agreed to not have 'tellers' at Polling Stations this year.

Tellers are the party volunteers who ask voters for their polling numbers outside polling stations.

Cllr Michael Mitchell, the Agent for the Liberal Democrat candidates for the City and County council elections said, "A number of new requirements are in place this year to ensure that voters can exercise their democratic right safely. We all agreed that we did not wish to do anything that might add to any possible public health concerns for members of the public, party volunteers or council staff working in the polling stations."

These 2021 elections have been unusual in many ways, with government guidance about campaigning, leafletting and mask wearing and the number of party workers who can meet together.

The parties are also united in their desire for as many people as possible to exercise their democratic right and use their postal vote or to vote in person on the 6thMay.
