Conservatives lose no time in making further cuts
Liberal Democrats in Plymouth have accused the Conservatives of losing no time in reversing progressive policies put into action by the Lib Dems during the Coalition, including making deep and unnecessary cuts.
Since the General Election in May, when the Coalition ended, the Conservatives have:
- slashed £12 billion from benefits, making the poorest carry the heaviest burden for reducing the deficit
- cut £200 million from this year's public health budget
- announced that they will end subsidies to the green energy sector, putting jobs and investment in danger
- launched plans to reintroduce the Snoopers Charter, allowing the State to read your emails and know which websites you've been visiting
- hinted they'll scrap free school meals for infants
Commenting, chair of Plymouth Liberal Democrats Hugh Janes said, "In coalition, the Liberal Democrats had to fight every day to hold the Conservatives back from implementing right-wing policies. Now free of that restraint, with no Lib Dems to hold them back, they are sharpening their knives for more cuts than are needed."
