City Lib Dems kickstart party's local campaign to keep Britain in Europe
Liberal Democrats were out in force last weekend, launching their party's local effort to keep Britain in Europe by delivering thousands of leafets to homes in the city.
Within the next two years Britain will go to the polls in a referendum to decide whether or not the country remains a member of the European Union.
Speaking about the campaign, the Liberal Democrat parliamentary spokesperson for Plymouth, Stuart Bonar, said, "I want to live in an open, tolerant Britain that is outward-looking, working with our neighbours to fight global problems.
"Britain is better off inside the European Union.
"Our trade with Europe supports millions of jobs and EU membership gives us access to the largest free trade area in the world. Only by working with other countries can we take effective action on issues like climate change that don't stop at borders. Being inside the EU means we have the freedom to travel, study, live, work and retire right across Europe. And in a city like Plymouth, which suffered so much in the Blitz, we cannot forget that the EU has helped secure peace in Europe.
"Please support the Liberal Democrat campaign to keep Britain in Europe, and the best way you can do that is to join us. It's quick and easy to join online at http://libdems.org.uk/join-europe. I look forward to welcoming you."
